MKT is the first distillery in “Old Town Katy,” and they are proudly situated in the well-known rice silos in the center of Katy. MKT Distillery and Tasting Room is a locally owned artisan distillery and tasting room in downtown Katy, housed in the ancient American Rice Growers Co-Op rice dryers. They create all of their spirits on-site, using locally sourced Texas ingredients and even incorporating Katy rice into their recipes. They create whiskeys, vodka, gin, and moonshine, among other spirits. Come out, bring your kids, bring your dogs, and enjoy some of Katy’s greatest spirits and cocktails in a historic building. There you can get your fill of Katy history and good whiskey. MKT Distillery makes its whiskey and moonshine, as well as a variety of non-alcoholic beverages. MKT Distillery, LLC is a company that was founded to compete favorably with other industry-leading distilleries and brands. This is why they guarantee that the proper framework is in place to accommodate the type of development that they see for their company. The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad began building tracks across the area in 1893 and went into service in 1895. The town of Katy, Texas, was named after the MKT Railroad (sometimes known as the “K-T” Railroad), which grew up around the original train station and railroad tracks. The MKT line brought citizens and opportunities to Katy, and rice-growing became a major aspect of life in Katy around 1900. Rice farming was a huge success, and the soil in Katy was extremely fertile. The first rice drier in Katy was constructed in 1940. Katy had plenty of space for rice cultivation, but larger crops necessitated the installation of more rice dryers. In 1944, Roy Morrison, J.V. Cardiff, and B. Ray Woods were the first to construct concrete rice dryers in Texas. The MKT railroad, the K-T train terminal, and rice are all important symbols in Katy’s history and culture. They titled themselves MKT Distillery in honor of that history and tradition, and they use locally farmed rice in every spirit they make. They intend to identify ourselves as “Katy’s Own” by adopting such emblems, which will assist promote their regional brand. The rice dryers are no longer operational; the last harvest was in 2005. We picked this landmark location to distill our goods to honor the importance of rice in the Katy community.
